Given the integration of open source innovation with data and artificial intelligence, the position requires close collaboration with AI Legal and Privacy Legal teams to ensure a comprehensive and secure open innovation strategy.

Key responsibilities include refining and automating legal processes for OSS usage and contribution, addressing challenges associated with AI-generated code, open-model licensing, and data provenance. The Corporate Counsel will lead legal review workflows for Cisco's involvement in the open-source AI ecosystem and ensure alignment with global data protection standards. Additionally, the role involves leading cross-functional legal teams to develop a cohesive strategy and serving as the primary legal advisor to engineering teams, translating complex OSS, AI, and privacy requirements into actionable guidance.

Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership, along with a minimum of seven years of relevant legal experience. Essential qualifications include a proven track record in managing complex open source compliance programs, deep understanding of OSS licensing frameworks, strong background in copyright or trade secret law as applied to software development, and experience addressing data and AI-related legal challenges. A collaborative mindset and demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional legal environments are also required.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $176,000 to $222,900, with individual compensation determined by factors such as location, experience, and qualifications.
