The National Football League (NFL) is seeking a Labor Counsel to join its legal team in New York, NY. This role focuses on the administration and enforcement of collectively bargained player policies and labor litigation, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Labor Relations. The position offers a unique opportunity to work within the NFL's dynamic environment, ensuring compliance with key player policies and contributing to the league's legal operations.
The Labor Counsel will oversee the NFL-NFLPA Performance-Enhancing Substances (PES) Policy, the Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse (SOA), the NFL Personal Conduct Policy (PCP), and the Gambling Policy. Responsibilities include collaborating with the NFL Players Association to maintain the integrity of these programs, managing jointly appointed experts, and supervising vendors and laboratories. The role also involves reviewing potential policy violations, recommending appropriate accountability measures, and litigating appeals of disciplinary actions. Additionally, the counsel will assist in negotiating, administering, and enforcing the NFL-NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), representing the league and clubs in arbitration proceedings, and supervising outside counsel in related matters.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and have 5 to 6 years of litigation experience at a top law firm or in federal or state criminal practice. Experience with workplace policies, particularly in anti-doping procedures, drug screening, and conduct policies, is essential. The role requires significant litigation experience, including handling arbitrations and trials, as well as proficiency in conducting and managing a docket of litigation matters and investigations.
The NFL offers a competitive salary range of $250,000 to $275,000 for this position, along with comprehensive benefits. Employees are expected to work 40 hours per week on-site at the NFL office, emphasizing the league's commitment to in-person collaboration and maintaining a strong organizational culture.
