Counsel
Western Digital is seeking a Counsel to join its Contract Management Organization within the Global Technology & Commercial Legal Services Team. This full-time position is based at Western Digital's sites in either Penang or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and requires regular onsite presence. The role involves providing high-quality legal counsel and support to Western Digital's Strategic Sourcing Organization, including negotiation of commercial agreements and collaboration with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and finalizing various commercial contracts such as professional services agreements, equipment purchase agreements, manufacturing services agreements, facilities services agreements, power supply agreements, software licensing agreements, purchase agreements, engagement letters, statements of work, amendments, and other business/legal documents. The Counsel will also identify and advise internal clients on risks associated with each transaction and propose practical and strategic risk mitigation strategies. Collaboration with attorneys and contract managers within the Contract Management Organization and various teams within the Legal Department is essential. Additionally, the role involves supporting and improving various aspects of the contract management process to drive efficiency and working on special projects, such as renewable energy projects, as needed.
The ideal candidate should have 5-8+ years of relevant transactional experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department, with a focus on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements. Experience working in or with technology companies or in the technology industry is preferred. Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects are essential. The candidate should be a self-starter who takes ownership of work and demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively with others. Strong proactive communication skills within the Legal team and across business stakeholders are required, along with a commitment to a growth mindset and continuous improvement. Experience with contract lifecycle management, AI use in contract management, e-signature, and other software tools supporting global contracting is desired.
Additional qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from an accredited university. Being called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya will be an advantage.
