Data Science Team Lead
Riskified is seeking a Data Science Team Lead to oversee a team of data scientists in developing advanced machine learning solutions for fraud detection and risk assessment. The Data Science department is integral to the company, utilizing techniques such as classification models, natural language processing, anomaly detection, graph theory, and deep learning to extract maximum value from diverse datasets.
In this role, the Team Lead will define technical approaches for complex data science projects involving large-scale tabular data, lead critical projects, and contribute code to production systems. Responsibilities include establishing best practices for model development, conducting code reviews, and guiding team members through technical challenges. Additionally, the Team Lead will recruit, onboard, mentor, and manage data scientists, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages experimentation and knowledge sharing. Collaboration with data engineers, machine learning engineers, fraud domain experts, and product managers is essential to define success metrics and demonstrate the business value of data science initiatives.
Candidates should possess an M.Sc in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, with over six years of experience designing and implementing machine learning algorithms with tabular data, successfully deploying them to production. A minimum of three years managing and leading data science teams of at least three direct reports is required. Proficiency in Python, experience with data manipulation tools like Pandas and NumPy, and a solid foundation in statistical concepts are essential. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, along with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, are also necessary.
