Data Scientist
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP is seeking a Data Scientist to join its Applied Analytics Group within the Knowledge Department. This role is pivotal in advancing the firm's artificial intelligence initiatives, working closely with legal practices, leadership, and administrative functions to derive insights from both structured and unstructured data.
The Data Scientist will develop and deploy machine learning models, including regression and classification models, and fine-tune pre-trained language models for various natural language processing tasks. Responsibilities also include designing document segmentation and embedding approaches to enhance information retrieval and conducting advanced quantitative research to identify patterns and anomalies in large datasets.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, finance, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred. A minimum of two years' experience in data science, machine learning engineering, or artificial intelligence is required. Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as Python or R, experience with databases like SQL, and familiarity with data transformation and visualization libraries are essential. Experience with natural language processing libraries and deep learning frameworks is advantageous.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $145,000 to $165,000, depending on qualifications and experience. This role is exempt, meaning it is not eligible for overtime pay.
