Director, Instrument Development Acceleration
Lila Sciences is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as the Director of Instrument Development Acceleration, overseeing our Virtual Lab Team. This pivotal role focuses on rapidly bringing laboratory instruments online with reliability and at scale, aligning with our mission to revolutionize scientific discovery through advanced AI integration.
The Director will lead a high-performing team of engineers and scientists, setting clear expectations and ensuring swift removal of obstacles to maintain focus on delivery. Responsibilities include managing the full lifecycle of laboratory instrument development—from concept to operational deployment—architecting integration frameworks that connect virtual lab environments with physical instrumentation and robotic systems, and upholding rigorous hardware-software integration standards and quality assurance processes.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, with a Ph.D. being advantageous but not mandatory. A minimum of 10 years in engineering or technical leadership is required, demonstrating a proven track record of delivering complex systems at scale and on time. Proficiency in C++, Python, or Java, along with deep experience in hardware-software integration, is essential. The role demands a problem-solver who can make decisions with imperfect information and maintain momentum, coupled with clear, direct communication skills to align engineers and stakeholders effectively.
Lila Sciences offers a competitive compensation package, including bonus potential and generous early equity. The expected base salary range for this position is $232,000 to $304,000 USD, reflecting the candidate's unique background, expertise, and anticipated impact.
