Lila Sciences is seeking a Scientist I/II to join their discovery platform team focused on decoding mRNA translation dynamics. This role involves developing workflows that utilize next-generation pooled screening strategies, such as polysome profiling and Ribo-seq, to generate rich biological datasets that feed directly into Lila's machine learning models. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a new approach to biological discovery by integrating synthetic biology, high-throughput experimentation, and intelligent automation.

Key responsibilities include designing and executing high-throughput pooled screening campaigns to interrogate mRNA translation dynamics across diverse sequence and structural contexts. The scientist will develop and optimize cell-free and in-cell assay systems for quantitative measurement of translation efficiency, kinetics, and regulation across different cell environments. Collaboration with computational and machine learning teams is essential to define data requirements, validate model predictions, and close the loop between experiment and prediction. Additionally, the role involves establishing and refining next-generation library design strategies and contributing to the development of automated experimental pipelines to increase throughput and consistency.

Candidates should possess an MSc with 4+ years of industry or academic experience, or a PhD in a relevant field such as molecular biology, bioengineering, synthetic biology, or chemical biology. Deep expertise in mRNA biology and translation regulation is required, along with experience in next-generation sequencing-based assays of mRNA translation, such as polysome profiling and Ribo-seq. Strong quantitative and analytical skills with experience handling large-scale biological datasets are essential. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively in interdisciplinary teams, are also necessary.

Lila Sciences offers competitive compensation, including bonus potential and generous early equity. The expected base salary range for this position is $108,000 to $170,000 USD. The final offer will reflect the candidate's unique background, expertise, and impact. Full-time U.S. employees receive a comprehensive benefits program, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; employer-paid life and disability insurance; flexible time off with generous company-wide holidays; paid parental leave; an educational assistance program; commuter benefits; and a company-subsidized lunch program.
