The Director of Nucleic Acid Delivery at Lila Sciences will lead the discovery and engineering of next-generation delivery systems for nucleic acid therapeutics. This role involves designing targeted lipid nanoparticles (tLNPs) and other biological delivery modalities to achieve precise delivery across diverse tissues and cell types. The position is based in Cambridge, MA, and offers an opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team leveraging Lila's AI platform and AI Science Factory to accelerate the development of transformative delivery technologies.

Key responsibilities include building and leading a high-performing team focused on nucleic acid delivery technology development. The director will drive the discovery and engineering of targeted lipid nanoparticle systems, design and evaluate targeting ligands and nanoparticle architectures, and develop innovative biological assays to assess delivery efficiency and functional nucleic acid expression. Collaboration with formulation scientists to integrate biological targeting strategies with lipid chemistry and nanoparticle formulation optimization is essential. Additionally, the role involves exploring next-generation delivery modalities beyond traditional LNPs and establishing strategic scientific direction aligned with company-wide therapeutic goals.

Candidates should possess a PhD in molecular biology, bioengineering, chemical biology, biomedical engineering, pharmacology, or a related discipline, with 8–10+ years of relevant industry or academic experience. Alternatively, a BS/MS with 12–15+ years of experience in nucleic acid delivery or genetic medicine is acceptable. Demonstrated expertise in lipid nanoparticle technologies, nucleic acid delivery systems, or related genetic medicine platforms is required. A strong track record of scientific leadership and mentorship, experience designing and executing in vitro and in vivo assays, and a deep understanding of biological mechanisms underlying delivery are also essential. Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills are necessary to translate complex scientific ideas into actionable research programs.

Lila Sciences offers competitive compensation, including bonus potential and generous early equity. The expected base salary range for this position is $184,000 to $256,000 USD, with the final offer reflecting the candidate's unique background, expertise, and impact.
