Director/Sr. Director, Legal
Monks is seeking a Director or Senior Director of Legal to lead the legal function for its North American operations. This role involves providing strategic and operational legal counsel across various business areas, with a primary focus on high-volume commercial contract negotiation. The position is based in New York City and reports to the Vice President of Global Legal and Business Affairs, who is located in Los Angeles.
The Director/Senior Director will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including client master service agreements, statements of work, technology licensing agreements, and vendor contracts. They will act as the primary legal contact for commercial finance and business teams, assisting in responding to RFPs and participating in client pitches. Additionally, the role includes managing a small team of lawyers and contract managers, developing standardized contract templates, and advising on other legal aspects such as litigation when necessary.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with New York or California preferred. A minimum of six years of progressive legal experience is required, including in-house or major law firm experience with a strong emphasis on commercial contract negotiation. Experience in advertising, production, digital media, technology, and data contracts is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills, strong commercial judgment, and the ability to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment.
