Lila Sciences is seeking an Automation Engineer I to join our Integrated Automation Engineering Team. This role offers an opportunity to engage in the development and enhancement of advanced automated workcells, contributing to the company's mission of pioneering scientific superintelligence. The position supports automation initiatives in life science laboratories and extends into material and physical sciences, encompassing applications such as drug discovery, bioengineering, and advanced material characterization.

The Automation Engineer I will be responsible for identifying, categorizing, and resolving issues related to automated workcells. Key duties include troubleshooting software and electro-mechanical systems, swiftly learning new technologies, and documenting processes for team knowledge sharing. The role also involves proactively identifying potential failure points, leading initiatives to mitigate them, and developing automated processes or tools to achieve organizational goals. Collaboration on significant projects focused on proactive issue identification, preventive maintenance, and AI integration into troubleshooting operations is also expected.

Candidates should possess a bachelor's or advanced degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Material Science, or related fields. A minimum of one year of industry automation experience, preferably in R&D lab automation, is required. Experience with integrated schedulers such as Overlord, Cellario, or Green Button Go is essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate curiosity, a strong hands-on approach to learning and problem-solving, and the ability to rapidly master diverse technical subjects. Proficiency in mechanical and technical tasks, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective collaboration and communication skills are also important. Adaptability and a positive contribution to team dynamics are valued.

The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $75,600 to $109,200 USD, with bonus potential and generous early-stage equity.
