Engineering Director, Core
The Engineering Director, Core at LaunchDarkly will lead the teams responsible for the company's core platform, which is integral to the infrastructure that customers rely on for software deployment. The director will also be accountable for the reliability and performance of customer-critical systems, emphasizing operational excellence, and will collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering leaders to align technical strategies with business objectives. Additionally, the role involves integrating emerging tools and AI-assisted development practices to enhance team productivity and fostering a high-trust, high-agency engineering culture.
Ideal candidates should have substantial experience in managing engineering managers and multiple teams, with a strong technical background in distributed systems, high-scale infrastructure, or developer tools. A proven track record in leading major technical migrations or infrastructure initiatives is essential. Comfort with operating across cloud infrastructure and production distributed systems is required, along with a history of hiring and developing engineering talent. Strong communication skills are necessary to effectively translate technical concepts to product, business, and executive stakeholders.
Compensation for this role varies based on geographic location within the United States. For candidates in Zone 1 (San Francisco/Bay Area or New York City Metropolitan Area), the target pay range is $269,400 to $370,480. In Zone 2 (Boston, DC, Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Seattle), the range is $242,500 to $333,410. For all other U.S. locations (Zone 3), the range is $229,000 to $314,930. In addition to salary, the compensation package includes Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), health, vision, and dental insurance, and mental health benefits.
