LaunchDarkly is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to join the Guardian team, focusing on enhancing software release processes through automation and observability. This role is pivotal in redefining how software is delivered, ensuring releases are safer, faster, and more reliable. The Guardian team is dedicated to automating release pipelines, monitoring feature rollouts in real-time, and simplifying debugging processes to optimize the entire release lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include leading the exploration and prototyping of new product concepts that integrate feature flags with observability systems. The engineer will serve as the team's expert on observability, translating industry trends and customer needs into innovative product prototypes. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to architect and advance observability products, aligning technical solutions with business objectives. Staying abreast of development trends and proactively identifying opportunities for product and user experience improvements are also critical aspects of the role.

Candidates should have over 12 years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of delivering production-quality full-stack features. Expertise in observability systems, statistical analysis pipelines, and event-based metrics infrastructure is required. A strong architectural understanding of data platforms, backend services, and cloud-native infrastructure is essential. Experience leading product development from concept to validated direction, deep familiarity with the observability ecosystem, and the ability to work autonomously with minimal direction are also necessary. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills are vital for success in this role.

Compensation for this position varies based on geographic location. For Zone 1 (San Francisco/Bay Area, NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, Seattle), the salary range is $214,800 to $295,350. In Zone 2 (Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago), the range is $193,400 to $265,870.
