Engineering Manager (BE/ML) - AI Help Platform
Canva is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Help AI Platform (HAIP) team within the AI Help Experience (AIHX) group. This team is responsible for developing intelligent help experiences, such as Canva Assistant, Magic Answers, and Magic Resolve, which assist millions of users in resolving issues swiftly, allowing them to focus on their creative work. The role involves working at the intersection of platform engineering, AI innovation, and user experience to enhance AI-powered support as Canva continues to grow.
The Engineering Manager will coach and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, guiding the development of scalable backend systems, orchestration workflows, and platform infrastructure that underpin AI help experiences. Key responsibilities include leading technical strategy and roadmap planning in collaboration with Product, ML/AI, Data Science, and cross-functional engineering teams, as well as driving experimentation, delivery, and operational excellence across AI-powered support capabilities. The role also involves championing engineering quality, platform reliability, governance, and evaluation standards, and collaborating with various teams to expand HAIP capabilities across Canva.
Ideal candidates will have experience leading backend, platform, or AI/ML engineering teams in high-scale environments, with strong technical expertise in backend systems, distributed architectures, or platform engineering. A keen interest in AI and LLM-powered products, along with the ability to balance platform scalability and reliability with user experience and business impact, is essential. The role requires excellent communication skills to simplify complex technical concepts and build trust across teams, as well as a commitment to fostering an inclusive and high-performing engineering culture. Experience with AI platforms, orchestration systems, evaluation tooling, or conversational AI experiences is highly regarded.
