Engineering Manager - Fonts & Images Processing
As an Engineering Manager for the Fonts & Images Processing team at Canva, you will lead a group of high-performing software engineers dedicated to developing and maintaining backend services that process and deliver fonts and images to millions of daily users. This role is integral to enhancing the core building blocks of the Canva experience, ensuring seamless and efficient design capabilities for users worldwide.
Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing the development of scalable, high-performance systems for processing large volumes of font and image content. You will collaborate closely with lead engineers to design and implement these systems, set clear goals for the team, and balance product needs against the long-term health and cost of the services. Additionally, you will work with various teams across the company to integrate font and image-related services with the broader Canva product.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in leading and supporting engineering teams, fostering collaboration, and enabling high performance. Strong coaching and interpersonal skills are essential, along with expertise in building highly scalable, secure, and efficient backend services, ideally using C++ or Java. A solid foundation in computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns, is required. Proficiency in working with cloud platforms and services, as well as experience with large-scale datastores such as AWS DynamoDB or S3, is also desirable.
