Canva is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Video Performance team in San Francisco. This role involves overseeing a specialized group of performance and systems engineers dedicated to enhancing the speed and reliability of Canva's video editing platform. The position is integral to Canva's mission of making professional-quality video creation accessible to everyone.

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for hiring, mentoring, and supporting a team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical rigor and continuous improvement. Key duties include shaping the long-term performance roadmap for the Video Group, prioritizing high-impact initiatives, and collaborating closely with Video Engine, AI Research, Product, and Design teams to integrate performance considerations early in the product development process. Additionally, the role involves championing performance-aware engineering practices across the organization and driving the delivery of performance-related improvements and internal tooling.

Candidates should have proven experience leading and developing engineering teams in fast-paced, product-focused environments. A strong understanding of end-to-end systems across frontend, backend, and native engines, particularly in video or other performance-critical applications, is essential. The ability to translate high-level performance goals into actionable engineering roadmaps, communicate complex technical topics effectively to diverse stakeholders, and balance long-term architectural quality with pragmatic delivery is also required. Familiarity with telemetry, experimentation, and A/B testing to evaluate technical improvements is important.

The target salary range for this position is $175,000 to $270,000.
