Capital on Tap is a profitable, FCA-regulated company dedicated to providing small businesses with accessible credit and financial tools. This role is based in London, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring two days per week in the Moorgate office.

In this position, the Engineering Team Lead will be responsible for hiring, developing, and retaining engineers, conducting meaningful one-on-one meetings, and fostering team growth. The role involves partnering with Product and QA teams to plan and deliver projects reliably by removing obstacles, managing risks, and maintaining team focus. Additionally, the lead will set the tone for team communication, feedback, and accountability, building a culture of psychological safety without compromising standards.

Candidates should have prior experience managing engineers and possess a clear understanding of effective leadership practices, including providing developmental feedback and motivating teams through uncertainty. A strong technical foundation is essential, as the backend utilizes C#/.NET Core; the lead should be capable of reviewing decisions and identifying risks. A product-oriented mindset is crucial, with the ability to consider engineering within the context of business outcomes and effectively communicate with non-technical stakeholders. Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to create clarity for the team in a growing and shifting environment are also important.

Preferred qualifications include experience with Azure cloud development, familiarity with React or front-end delivery, and a background in regulated financial services or fintech.

The company fosters a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and continuous learning, providing opportunities for career progression and personal development. Employees are encouraged to take ownership of their work, contribute to a collaborative environment, and participate in various social and professional development activities.
