Head of Risk Analytics
Waymo, an autonomous driving technology company, is seeking a Head of Risk Analytics to lead the development and scaling of actuarial infrastructure and data systems supporting its diverse risk exposures. This role is integral to Waymo's mission of becoming the world's most trusted driver by enhancing mobility and safety through innovative technology. The position is available in both San Francisco, CA, and New York City, NY.
In this role, the Head of Risk Analytics will be responsible for building and scaling the foundational actuarial infrastructure and data systems required to support Waymo's full portfolio of risk exposures. They will establish robust management reporting frameworks to communicate risk insights, portfolio performance, and actuarial findings to senior leadership. Additionally, they will serve as a trusted advisor to senior business functions, providing guidance on risk tolerance and balance sheet protection strategies. The role also involves collaborating with internal teams to develop innovative actuarial methodologies to identify outsized risks and quantify the safety performance of the Waymo Driver compared to human benchmarks. Overseeing complex pricing and reserving models that quantify Waymo's expected losses and support insurance program negotiations is also a key responsibility. Furthermore, the Head of Risk Analytics will lead initiatives to quantify enterprise-level risks, providing senior management with a strategic framework for risk prioritization, and represent Waymo in engagements regarding regulatory outcomes for autonomous vehicle insurance requirements.
Candidates should possess high technical acumen with a strong mastery of statistics and actuarial science. An advanced degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, or actuarial science is required, along with professional credentials such as FCAS (Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society) or a PhD in a quantitative field. A proven track record of solving large, open-ended problems and driving outcomes for projects with previously unclear solutions is essential. Excellent collaboration and communication skills are necessary, with the ability to present complex actuarial findings and strategic insights to senior audiences. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in pricing and reserving for commercial auto lines and novel risk exposures. A specialized background in Enterprise Risk Management or a CERA (Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst) designation is preferred.
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is $268,000 to $340,000 USD annually. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
