Head Writer

Lila Sciences is seeking a highly organized, newsroom-trained Senior Writer/Editorial Lead to join our Marketing and Communications team. This role involves collaborating closely with scientists, engineers, and leadership to develop and maintain an editorial program that translates complex scientific concepts into accurate, timely, and accessible narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Key responsibilities include partnering with senior C-suite leaders to shape the company's editorial agenda and long-term strategy, building and managing a team of writers, assigning stories, overseeing the drafting and revision process, and writing and editing high-visibility pieces. The role also involves creating layered content that can be repurposed across various formats such as social posts, blogs, technical briefs, and talks.

The ideal candidate will have over five years of experience in a newsroom or similar environment, with demonstrated editorial judgment and high standards. A strong portfolio of science and/or technology writing is essential, along with the ability to translate complex scientific and engineering concepts into compelling stories. Exceptional editing skills, including structure, clarity, tone, sourcing, and fact-checking, are required. Familiarity with AI for science domains such as drug discovery, chemistry, materials, and automation is preferred.

We offer competitive compensation, including bonus potential and generous early equity. The expected base salary range for this role is $148,000 to $224,000 USD per year, with the final offer reflecting the candidate's unique background, expertise, and impact.
