Legal Clerk I – Civil Motions Program
The Legal Clerk I position within the Civil Motions Program at the Office of Judicial Records, Civil Division, involves providing essential clerical support to court staff. This role is integral to the efficient processing of legal documents and the management of civil motions, ensuring that court operations run smoothly and effectively.
Key responsibilities include searching names, cases, and judgment indexes to assist court users, instructing them on proper procedural steps for filing documents in compliance with civil procedure rules. The clerk resolves inquiries via telephone, email, and in-person interactions concerning court documents, docketing, scheduling, and assignments for the Civil Motions Program. Additionally, the role involves examining legal documents to ensure they meet filing requirements, processing emergency filings, and assisting the judiciary with case management and scheduling.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with one to two years of progressively responsible clerical experience in processing legal instruments and documents. Equivalent combinations of training and experience that provide the necessary skills are also acceptable. Successful completion of a criminal background investigation is required, and candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
