Legal Counsel - Ventures
Octopus Ventures is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to support its investment activities. This role involves providing legal oversight for venture transactions, advising on portfolio company matters, and managing external legal counsel. The successful candidate will work closely with investment professionals, founders, management teams, and external advisers to deliver practical, commercial legal advice across the investment lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include overseeing new investment transactions from term sheet through to completion, ensuring efficient execution and effective risk management. The Legal Counsel will also advise on follow-on investments, portfolio company matters, shareholder issues, secondary transactions, and exits. Additionally, the role involves coordinating internal stakeholders and external legal counsel to support efficient transaction execution and effective management of legal spend.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor with a minimum of four years' post-qualification experience, particularly in venture capital transactions. Strong drafting, negotiation, and project management skills are essential. Experience using legal technology and AI tools to improve ways of working is also preferred. Exposure to both retail fund structures and institutional investment fund structures is advantageous.
