Litigation & Practice Technology Data Scientist
The Legal Practice Technology Data Scientist at Kirkland & Ellis is a client-facing role within the firm's Innovation Program, dedicated to designing and executing client-focused workflows on complex legal matters. Reporting to the Associate Director of Technical Operations, the Data Scientist collaborates with a team of discovery, data management, and AI specialists to develop innovative solutions that enhance the firm's legal services.
Key responsibilities include supporting the collection of requirements and the design and building of in-house solutions, consulting with case teams on data strategies, and executing rapid solution development. This involves custom scripting, data management, database development, and visualization design. The role also entails completing requests requiring advanced technologies such as document layout analysis, LLM-based information extraction, semantic chunking, and entity recognition, while maintaining comprehensive documentation throughout.
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a law firm, legal services, or professional services organization, with significant experience working in a team environment. Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into client-friendly language. Proficiency in statistical analysis, data modeling, and hands-on experience with Relativity custom development are essential. Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, experience in creating data visualizations with tools such as Plotly, Tableau, and Microsoft Power BI, and strong Python skills for data analysis and AI/ML prototyping are also required.
Kirkland & Ellis offers a competitive compensation package, with base salary ranges varying by location. For example, in New York City, the base salary range is $133,000 to $166,000, while in the Bay Area, it ranges from $133,000 to $191,000.
