Machine Learning Engineer II/ Senior Machine Learning Engineer I, Physical Sciences
Lila Sciences is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join our Physical Sciences team. This role focuses on developing and managing scalable machine learning workflows to address diverse scientific challenges in materials, chemistry, and physical sciences. Your contributions will drive research efforts on state-of-the-art algorithms, advancing our mission to build scientific superintelligence for tackling today's most pressing issues in the physical sciences.
In this position, you will design, implement, and maintain comprehensive machine learning pipelines, encompassing data ingestion, feature engineering, training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring. Collaborating with cross-functional software teams, you will productionize models and services with robust testing, observability, and documentation, while building CI/CD workflows and automated evaluations to ensure safe, frequent releases. Additionally, you will work closely with domain scientists and platform engineers to translate research insights into performant, scalable systems, and contribute to technical design reviews, coding standards, and mentoring of best practices.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or have equivalent industry experience. Strong Python software engineering fundamentals, including testing, packaging, and typing, are essential, along with experience in machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or Huggingface. Proficiency in deploying ML services to production in cloud-based infrastructures, including FastAPI/GRPC, containers, orchestration, and cloud infrastructure, is required. Hands-on experience with model deployment in production systems, including LLMs, multimodal models, databases, and RAG, with strong debugging and profiling skills, is also necessary. Clear communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional settings are vital.
We offer a competitive base salary ranging from $128,000 to $198,000 USD, along with bonus potential and generous early-stage equity.
