Machine Learning Engineer
Profluent is seeking an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to enhance and develop the models and systems driving our protein design initiatives. As an early member of our dynamic engineering team, you will have significant ownership over our machine learning stack and the opportunity to shape the evolution of our platform. This role is based in Emeryville, California, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring 2-3 days on-site per week.
In this position, you will be responsible for building robust, reproducible, and user-friendly pipelines for automated model fine-tuning, alignment, and evaluation. You will design and implement modular, maintainable multi-model pipelines for protein design, develop scalable ETL pipelines to process extensive protein data for model pretraining, and optimize model training and inference code to maximize throughput and resource utilization at scale. Additionally, you will create software and infrastructure that enable the machine learning team to operate efficiently in distributed and multi-cloud environments, and collaborate with ML and protein design scientists to prototype research ideas and transition them into production.
The ideal candidate holds a BS or MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with over three years of hands-on experience building and training machine learning models in PyTorch. Strong proficiency in Python and software engineering fundamentals, including testing, code quality, and version control, is essential. Experience in profiling, benchmarking, and optimizing ML model training and inference, as well as implementing or optimizing transformer-based architectures, is required. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies such as GCP, AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, and Docker is also necessary.
