Manager, CMO Operations, VMT Lead (Autologous CAR-T)
The Manager, CMO Operations - VMT Lead at Legend Biotech is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end operations of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) involved in the commercial production of autologous CAR-T cell therapy products. This role ensures seamless execution, performance management, and risk oversight to guarantee the timely and compliant delivery of patient-specific drug products. As the primary operational liaison between internal teams and external manufacturing partners, the Manager drives operational excellence and continuous improvement in a complex, patient-focused manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities include managing the entire manufacturing process at CMOs, from apheresis to final drug product release and shipment, aligning production plans with patient schedules and demand forecasts, and monitoring batch status and execution risks. The Manager leads Value Management Teams (VMTs) to drive structured performance management, conducts regular business reviews, and translates operational data into actionable insights for senior leadership. Additionally, the role involves proactively identifying and mitigating operational and compliance risks, leading cross-functional problem-solving initiatives, and ensuring robust contingency planning to maintain supply reliability.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, biological sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related technical field, with a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience in biologics CMC development or commercial manufacturing. Experience in cell therapy and autologous CAR-T is highly preferred. The role requires demonstrated expertise in managing CMOs within regulated manufacturing environments, a strong understanding of GMP operations and supply risk management, and excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
