Principal / Senior Principal, Security Architect
Lila Sciences is seeking a Principal Security Architect to lead the security architecture for cloud applications operating at FedRAMP IL5 and IL6 levels. This hands-on leadership role involves designing, implementing, and authorizing secure cloud systems, while also shaping enterprise-wide security architecture and engineering practices. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enabling secure product delivery at speed and scale.
Key responsibilities include defining and delivering secure cloud architectures that meet the highest federal standards, co-owning FedRAMP IL5/IL6 security architectures with Application Architects, and developing deployable security designs grounded in NIST 800-53 Rev. 5, DoD Cloud SRG (IL5/IL6), and FedRAMP guidelines. The role also involves creating core security building blocks such as identity and access management, network segmentation, encryption, and implementing Zero Trust architecture in production environments. Additionally, the architect will build reusable security platforms and patterns, support enterprise reference architectures, and integrate security-by-design into product engineering and cloud infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of experience in cybersecurity, security architecture, or security engineering, with proven, hands-on delivery of FedRAMP IL5 and/or IL6 systems from design through authorization. Strong working knowledge of NIST 800-53 Rev. 5, DoD Cloud Computing SRG (IL5/IL6), and FedRAMP authorization and ATO processes is essential. Experience with cloud security architecture in AWS GovCloud, securing cloud-native platforms including container orchestration (EKS, AKS, OpenShift), CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code is required. The ability to explain control intent and risk tradeoffs, beyond merely mapping requirements to controls, is also crucial.
Compensation for this role includes a competitive base salary ranging from $204,000 to $310,000 USD, along with bonus potential and generous early-stage equity. Full-time U.S. employees receive a comprehensive benefits program, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; employer-paid life and disability insurance; flexible time off with generous company-wide holidays; paid parental leave; an educational assistance program; commuter benefits; and a company-subsidized lunch program.
