Private Clients Paralegal
Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP is seeking a Private Clients Paralegal to join their esteemed private clients practice in New York City. This role involves supporting attorneys in trust and estate administration, assisting clients in protecting and managing family wealth, and planning for its transmission to future generations and charitable organizations.
The paralegal will be responsible for preparing and reviewing probate and administration proceeding documents, collecting and valuing assets, and managing the payment of debts and bequests. Additional duties include drafting federal and state estate tax returns, handling informal estate and trust accountings, administering ongoing trusts, and coordinating distribution requests and income tax payments. The role also involves reviewing Form 1041s prepared by external accountants and drafting receipt and release agreements, fiduciary appointments, and tax planning documents under attorney supervision. Proactive management of filing deadlines and effective communication with attorneys, clients, and government agencies are essential.
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree and have a minimum of five years of experience as a trusts and estates paralegal. Experience with large estates featuring complex tax plans, including the preparation of federal and state estate tax returns, probate documents, and Surrogate’s Court filings, is required. Knowledge of estate and trust income taxation is essential, and familiarity with fiduciary accounting is preferred. Proficiency in One Source Estate Tax Program (formerly FPS), NYSBA Surrogate’s Court program, and Excel is necessary. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, effective client communication, discretion, and flexibility to work outside regular business hours as needed.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000, with eligibility for overtime pay. Cleary Gottlieb offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health care benefits.
