Senior Accountant
Censys is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team, supporting the Senior Staff Accountant, Controller, Chief Financial Officer, and other leaders. This role is integral to ensuring accurate and efficient financial operations within the company. Censys is a leader in providing real-time Internet intelligence and actionable threat insights to global governments, Fortune 500 companies, and leading threat intelligence providers worldwide.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, preparing and recording journal entries, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and conducting detailed profit and loss reviews. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with Revenue Operations to process customer billing, maintaining accounts receivable records, monitoring daily accounts to identify and resolve collection issues, and overseeing the sales tax process, including approving returns and monitoring state nexus requirements. Payroll administration duties include ensuring compliance, acting as a backup for payroll processing, registering with new states as an employer, and reviewing payroll entries for accuracy. The Senior Accountant will also nurture positive and collaborative working relationships within the finance team and broader organization, maintain a deep familiarity with accounting and internal control processes to mitigate risk, and monitor and maintain internal policies for travel, expense, purchasing, and the approval matrix.
Candidates should possess an undergraduate degree in Accounting or equivalent experience, with at least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a startup or scale-up environment. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in SaaS revenue recognition (ASC606) are essential. Experience with full-cycle sales tax processes, including registering with nexus states and filing, is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, NetSuite, Maxio, and other ERP and accounting software is expected, with experience in Campfire being a plus.
For high-cost living areas, the expected salary range is $125,000 to $165,000, plus bonus eligibility and equity. For all other locations, the range is $110,000 to $154,000, plus bonus eligibility and equity. Benefits effective on day one include a 401(k) match, health, vision, dental insurance, and more.
