Senior Backend Engineer, Exposure Management
Censys is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Exposure Management team. This role focuses on developing and maintaining large-scale, real-time backend services that integrate Censys' extensive datasets to support internal product APIs and customer-facing applications. The position is remote and open to candidates in the United States and Canada.
The Senior Backend Engineer will design, build, and own backend APIs and gRPC services, integrating data from multiple internal systems in a well-architected manner. Responsibilities include developing real-time and near-real-time backend services and data pipelines for Exposure Management and Attack Surface Management products. The role also involves leveraging AI and large language models to enhance automation and improve customer-facing intelligence, collaborating closely with Product and Engineering teams to prioritize features and deliver customer value, and providing technical leadership through design reviews and mentorship.
Candidates should have a positive attitude and a bias towards action and iterative problem-solving. Required qualifications include over 5 years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in Golang, experience designing and consuming REST and gRPC APIs in service-oriented or microservice architectures, strong distributed systems fundamentals, and the ability to participate in technical discussions and drive data-driven decisions. Strong communication and documentation skills are also essential.
For high cost of living areas such as San Francisco Bay, New York City, and Seattle, the expected salary range is $165,000 to $188,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity. For other U.S. locations, the expected salary range is $135,000 to $155,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity. Actual compensation will be based on factors including individual qualifications, market demands, and specific work location.
