As a Senior Analytics Engineer in the Product Insights & Enablement (PIE) group at Canva, you will play a pivotal role in transforming raw event and product data into clean, scalable, and well-documented data models. This position is integral to enabling product teams to deeply understand the usage and value of internal tools, thereby facilitating data-informed decision-making. Operating within the Product Platform supergroup, PIE focuses on building trusted data foundations, experimentation insights, and reporting frameworks that power product decisions across Canva.
In this role, your primary responsibilities will include designing, building, and maintaining scalable data models that support internal reporting and experimentation insights. You will transform raw event and product data into clean, tested datasets ready for analysis, collaborate with Product Managers and Engineers to define and standardize product metrics, and implement data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and reliability. Additionally, you will contribute to improving documentation and metric clarity to increase transparency and trust in reporting, as well as evolve analytics engineering workflows, modeling patterns, and tooling within PIE.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience writing advanced SQL and working with modern data transformation tools such as dbt or similar. A strong understanding of data modeling principles and analytics engineering best practices is essential, along with experience working with large datasets in cloud data warehouse environments. The ability to translate product questions into structured, scalable data solutions, strong communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and a growth mindset with motivation to deepen technical craft are also key qualifications.
