As a Senior Backend Engineer at Remote, you will join a dynamic team of engineers across Frontend, Backend, SRE, and QA, organized into cross-functional development teams assigned to specific verticals. Remote is dedicated to simplifying global employment by enabling businesses to recruit, pay, and manage international teams with ease. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to contribute to building tools, APIs, and integrations for one of our products, utilizing technologies such as Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, React, Next.js, and AWS.

In this role, you will lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for Remote's HR and Payroll products. Your responsibilities will include actively engaging in product work, providing feedback, suggesting solutions, and using technical insights to propose product improvements. You will maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team's domain from both product and engineering perspectives, contribute to the shared codebase, debug and resolve technical and business issues, and mentor other engineers.

The ideal candidate will have strong engineering fundamentals and a proven track record of delivering secure, reliable, and scalable production systems. Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them through iteration is essential. Proficiency with Postgres (or similar databases) and CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins is required. Experience with functional programming languages like Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, or Haskell, as well as familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and React/Vue/Angular, is advantageous.

Remote offers a competitive salary, stock options, unlimited paid time off, and a comprehensive set of perks and benefits. These include flexible working hours, 16 weeks of paid parental leave, mental health support services, a learning budget, a home office budget with IT equipment, and a budget for local in-person social events or co-working spaces. The company fosters a supportive and kind work environment, encouraging innovation and professional growth.

At Remote, we embrace a culture of asynchronous work, allowing you to plan your schedule around your life rather than meetings. You will be empowered to take ownership and be proactive, with a strong emphasis on work-life balance. If you are energetic, curious, motivated, and ambitious, this is an opportunity to define the future of work and make a significant impact on a growing company.
