Senior Backend Engineer
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Remote, you will join a dynamic team of engineers across Frontend, Backend, SRE, and QA, organized into cross-functional development teams. Remote is dedicated to simplifying global employment by enabling businesses to recruit, pay, and manage international teams with ease. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to work asynchronously with colleagues from six continents, contributing to the development of tools, APIs, and integrations for our HR and Payroll products.
In this role, you will lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing and implementing APIs with performance, scalability, and maintainability in mind, contributing to the shared codebase, and debugging and solving technical and business issues. Additionally, you will mentor and provide guidance to other engineers, actively participate in product work by providing feedback and suggesting solutions, and investigate and implement improvements to our platform.
The ideal candidate will have strong engineering fundamentals and a proven track record of shipping production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable. Required qualifications include practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows and improving them through iteration, proficiency with Postgres (or similar databases), and experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins. Experience with functional programming languages like Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, or Haskell is a plus, as is familiarity with technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and React/Vue/Angular.
