Senior Backend Engineer
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Remote, you will join a cross-functional team comprising Frontend, Backend, SRE, and QA engineers. Remote is dedicated to simplifying global employment by enabling businesses to recruit, pay, and manage international teams seamlessly. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to work with colleagues across six continents, contributing to the development of tools, APIs, and integrations for our HR and Payroll products.
In this role, you will lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing and implementing APIs with performance, scalability, and maintainability in mind, contributing to the shared codebase, debugging and resolving technical and business issues, and mentoring other engineers. Additionally, you will be involved in non-team activities such as support rotations, the hiring process, and RFC discussions.
The ideal candidate will have strong engineering fundamentals and a proven track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems. Required experience includes proficiency with Postgres (or similar databases) and CI/CD tools like GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins. Demonstrated capabilities in automation and AI, as well as fluency in AI concepts, are essential. Experience with functional programming languages such as Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, or Haskell is advantageous, along with familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and React/Vue/Angular.
