Senior Distributed Systems Engineer
Airship is seeking a Senior Distributed Systems Engineer to join our Shared Services team. This team is dedicated to enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and visibility of our large-scale distributed data systems, which process billions of mobile app interactions for some of the world's most recognized brands. As a key member of this team, you will play a pivotal role in improving our system's architecture and performance.
In this role, you will be responsible for reading, understanding, and writing code and unit tests, primarily in Java. Your day-to-day tasks will include investigating and diagnosing performance bottlenecks and cost inefficiencies, implementing and deploying architectural and library changes, and responding to performance and reliability issues identified internally and by customers. Collaboration with other backend engineers to solve a broad range of distributed systems problems will also be a significant part of your responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will have experience writing Java and familiarity with industry best practices, strong verbal and written communication skills, and hands-on experience designing and maintaining data-intensive systems. The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential. Experience with a cloud platform, particularly Google Cloud Platform, is preferred. Additional skills such as memory optimization and performance tuning of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), experience with streaming and batch workloads, and improving, adapting, and extending a mature codebase are advantageous.
This position offers a competitive salary range of $145,000 to $165,000 per year, along with stock options.
