Canva is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead its Security Platform Engineering and Security Development teams within the Security Group. The Security Group is dedicated to protecting Canva's systems and data from information security threats by implementing preventive and detective controls across various domains, including Application Security, Risk Management, Enterprise Security, and Threat Detection and Response. The Security Platform Engineering team focuses on solving security-specific challenges, enabling engineers to develop secure code efficiently by providing a suite of tools and resources. The Security Development team builds and maintains software that enhances the capabilities of the broader Security Group, such as vulnerability scanning and incident response tooling.

In this role, the Senior Engineering Manager will oversee two small teams of software engineers, guiding them in designing and implementing software solutions to mitigate security risks. Responsibilities include developing and executing strategic roadmaps for both teams, balancing security requirements with developer experience to facilitate rapid and secure development processes. The manager will also coach and mentor engineers, providing regular, practical feedback to support their professional growth. Additionally, the role involves managing the teams' development methodologies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, to ensure high performance. Driving the internal adoption of security systems across Canva's engineering teams by promoting the benefits of the developed solutions is also a key aspect of the position.

The ideal candidate will have experience directly managing high-performing teams aligned with company or specialty missions and goals. Strong software engineering fundamentals are essential, with the ability to engage with principal-level engineers and contribute significantly to design documents and complex software architectures. Experience collaborating cross-functionally with software engineering, SRE/DevOps, and compliance teams to integrate security into developer workflows is required. Proficiency in programming languages such as Golang, Java, Rust, or similar is necessary, along with experience in building and operating cloud-based services.

These include equity packages to share in the company's success, an inclusive parental leave policy supporting all parents and carers, and an annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to promote wellbeing, social connection, and office setup. Flexible leave options are also available, empowering employees to recharge and support their personal needs.

Joining Canva means becoming part of a team that values innovation, collaboration, and personal growth. The company fosters a culture of inclusivity and continuous learning, providing opportunities for career advancement and skill development.
