Senior Machine Learning Engineer - Training Platform (AU remote)

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on Canva's Training Platform team, you will be instrumental in developing and scaling the infrastructure that supports large-scale AI model training. This team is a part of Canva's AI Platform group within the Generative AI supergroup, focusing on building reliable and efficient training systems that empower various teams across the company to create and enhance AI-driven features.

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include designing and improving the Kubernetes-based training platform to support distributed AI workloads. You will work on enhancing the platform's reliability, observability, and operational support, as well as developing capabilities for better resource allocation and scheduling. Collaboration with research scientists, machine learning engineers, product teams, and cloud infrastructure teams will be essential to ensure efficient and reproducible training workflows.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in building and managing training pipelines, distributed systems, or large-scale AI infrastructure. Proficiency with Kubernetes and containerized workloads is crucial, along with familiarity with distributed frameworks such as Ray or PyTorch distributed training. Knowledge of cloud services that support high-performance AI workloads, including high-performance storage and networking solutions, is also important. A strong sense of ownership and the ability to work on complex, cross-functional projects are key attributes for success in this position.
