Senior Principal Software Engineer
Lila Sciences is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to lead the development of their AI-driven scientific platform. This role involves close collaboration with machine learning researchers, platform engineers, and scientists to create applications and services that support AI-driven scientific processes. The position offers the opportunity to build a modern, production-grade system from the ground up, utilizing cutting-edge AI frameworks, lab automation software, and scalable cloud infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include driving the technical design, implementation, and maintenance of software systems and applications. The engineer will design and build robust, scalable web applications and services across the full stack, empowering scientists to integrate AI into their research workflows. Collaboration with domain scientists, machine learning engineers, and product leads is essential to integrate various technologies, including machine learning models, data and compute infrastructure, and experimental automation tools. Additionally, the role involves setting standards for code quality, testing, and documentation, mentoring junior engineers, and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with over 12 years of experience in building and deploying scalable software systems in production environments. Technical leadership experience, including leading and mentoring teams and making key architectural decisions, is required. Proficiency in full-stack development, including technologies such as React, TypeScript, Python, and experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, is essential. Strong communication and collaboration skills are necessary to work effectively across diverse teams.
Lila Sciences offers competitive compensation, including a base salary ranging from $232,000 to $390,000 USD, along with bonus potential and generous early-stage equity.
