Senior Security Research Engineer
Censys is seeking a Senior Security Research Engineer to join our remote team within the United States or Canada. As a leader in Internet intelligence, Censys provides real-time data and actionable threat insights to global governments, over 50% of the Fortune 500, and leading threat intelligence providers worldwide. This role offers the opportunity to work with the most comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date map of the Internet, contributing to our mission of understanding everything on the internet.
In this position, you will conduct Internet measurement research using Censys’ Internet-wide scan data, identifying and analyzing trends with significant security implications. You will collaborate with Research and Product teams to deliver new security prototypes to customers and guide the development of new products. Your responsibilities will include inspecting, mining, transforming, and analyzing large datasets to support engineering efforts such as predictive modeling of scan targets, software and hardware identification, vulnerability detection, and threat actor identification. Additionally, you will assist in data classification and dataset interrogation using techniques like entity and identity resolution, clustering, and data gap analysis.
The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Internet protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, HTTP, and TLS. High proficiency in using analytical databases and data warehouses such as Google BigQuery and Snowflake to interrogate large datasets is essential. You should possess the ability to conceive, execute, and derive actionable insights from measurements involving Internet-wide scanning and data collection. Strong communication skills are necessary to explain complex technical concepts to other engineers, designers, and product managers.
For high cost of living areas (San Francisco Bay, New York City, and Seattle), the expected salary range for this position is $180,000 USD - $212,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity. For other US locations, the expected salary range is $153,000 USD - $180,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
