Senior Software Engineer, DevOps
Tanium is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in DevOps to join their engineering team. This role involves designing and managing systems, tools, and infrastructure to ensure consistent, rapid, safe, and reliable code delivery across the organization. The position is based in Durham, NC, and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence at least three days per week.
In this role, you will collaborate with a cross-functional engineering team to develop next-generation pipelines for building, releasing, and testing Tanium products and services. You will support and maintain CI/CD pipelines across multiple environments, deploy and manage critical applications on cloud-native microservices architecture, and work with product security teams to build tools for identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities. Additionally, you will design systems to monitor critical infrastructure, plan for future needs, and respond rapidly to incidents, while iterating on best practices to enhance deployment quality and velocity.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a preference for a Computer Science degree. You should have at least five years of experience in software development, DevOps, or SRE roles, and five years of experience managing cloud-based services with AWS, GCP, or Azure, with AWS being preferred. Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Pulumi or Terraform (Pulumi preferred), Docker/Kubernetes in production environments, and a deep understanding of networking is essential. Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or other configuration management suites, as well as modern software engineering development and automation tools like Git, GitHub Actions, and JIRA, is also required. Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VirtualBox, VMware Fusion, or vCenter, and managing metrics gathering and reporting systems like Grafana, Prometheus, or InfluxDB is beneficial.
Tanium offers a competitive annual base salary ranging from $180,000 to $270,000, with the actual offer depending on factors such as location, education, skills, training, and experience.
