Senior Software Engineer
Tanium is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Connect team, focusing on the development and maintenance of services that facilitate the transfer of endpoint data to external systems such as SIEMs, data warehouses, ticketing systems, cloud storage, and email. This role involves designing and building scalable, reliable backend services in Node.js and Golang, and shaping the technical direction of the team. The position requires a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of three days per week in the office at either the Durham, NC or Emeryville, CA location.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building backend services that collect, transform, and deliver large volumes of endpoint data to external destinations. You will also design and evolve APIs with clear contracts, versioning, and backward compatibility, and build and maintain integrations with third-party platforms, handling various authentication methods, rate limits, payload formats, and failure behaviors. Additionally, you will own delivery guarantees, including retries, backoff, deduplication, and back-pressure, to ensure data integrity. The role also involves building event-driven workflows using technologies like NATS and Temporal, leading technical design for new capabilities, improving observability, writing unit tests, debugging production issues, and mentoring engineers.
Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a preference for a Computer Science degree or related technical field. A minimum of 8 years of experience in building and running backend services in production is required, with strong proficiency in Golang or Node.js. Experience in designing APIs (REST, GraphQL, or gRPC), building event-driven systems, integrating with third-party APIs and SaaS products, and working with containers and cloud technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Azure, or AWS) is essential. Familiarity with SQL or NoSQL data stores, version control systems like Git, and CI/CD pipelines is also necessary. Experience with NATS or Temporal, SIEM or ITSM platforms, React or TypeScript, and building multi-tenant SaaS services is a plus. Candidates must be eligible to obtain FedRAMP clearance at a minimum.
