Senior Sustaining Hardware Engineer
Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Sustaining Hardware Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software, product management, and manufacturing, to develop and maintain high-speed networking and Ethernet products used in enterprise campuses, hyperscale data centers, and advanced AI clusters.
The primary responsibilities include debugging production system issues, conducting in-depth analysis of existing hardware designs—such as CPU/ASIC, power, signal integrity, clocking, PCIe, optics, fabrication, and components—and delivering effective solutions. The engineer will work closely with software and customer teams to address field escalations, identify bugs, determine optimal fixes with minimal field disruption, and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Additional duties involve making necessary firmware, schematic, BOM, and fabrication changes, performing lab measurements and debugging, collaborating with component and ODM teams to identify root causes and fixes, and developing new tests to address test escapes.
Candidates must possess a BSEE or MSEE degree and have over five years of relevant hardware engineering experience. Required skills include debugging networking hardware, designing 20+ layer boards with 50G+ signals, validating multi-phase DC/DC converters for high-current, high-transient loads, and designing and debugging high-speed interfaces like DDR and PCIe, as well as low-speed signals such as I2C and SPI. Familiarity with signal and power integrity concepts and tools, including impedance, PDNs, Bode plots, PCIe analyzers, TDRs, and VNAs, is essential. Proficiency in FPGA design using Verilog is also required.
The base salary for this position ranges from $130,000 to $225,000, depending on factors such as skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and work location. In addition to base pay, certain roles may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and equity. US-based employees are entitled to benefits including medical, dental, vision, wellbeing, tax savings, and income protection. The recruiting team can provide more details during the hiring process specific to the role and location.
