Software Engineer, Network Systems
Arista Networks is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Network Systems team. In this role, you will collaborate with hardware engineers to design and develop software that manages hardware components on switches and routers, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. Your work will encompass controlling various hardware elements, including temperature sensors, fan controllers, power controllers, storage devices, FPGAs, NICs, and PCIe switches. Additionally, you will influence hardware designs for ease of software control and participate in bringing new hardware to market.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining features using C, C++, and Python, reviewing and contributing to functional and design specifications, and building automated tests and test infrastructure. You will work closely with hardware and manufacturing teams to introduce new hardware, collaborate with hardware engineers to design optimal software control interfaces, and assist Customer Support Engineers and customers in analyzing and resolving network issues. Furthermore, you will work with System Test Engineers to address problems identified during testing and mentor junior engineers to acclimate them to Arista's software development environment.
The ideal candidate will possess a BSc, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, along with at least 3 years of related postgraduate work experience. Proficiency in C or C++ and Python, as well as knowledge of UNIX or Linux, is required. Experience with low-level hardware components is advantageous, and an understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus. Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills, the ability to design solutions and implement features independently, and the capability to work effectively in small teams are essential.
Arista offers a competitive base salary ranging from $95,000 to $145,000, depending on work location and individual qualifications. In addition to base pay, certain roles may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and equity.
