Senior Systems Engineer, Rider Safety, Compliance, & Experience
Waymo, an autonomous driving technology company, is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for Rider Safety, Compliance, & Experience. This role is based in Mountain View and San Francisco, California, and involves working with cross-functional teams to develop and implement requirements, system architecture, and verification strategies for rider safety, security, and compliance features on existing and new vehicle platforms.
The Senior Systems Engineer will collaborate with software engineers, product managers, system safety, and operations leads to create safety analyses, lead comprehensive trade studies, and take ownership of solutions, considering long-term goals. Additionally, the role involves debugging field issues, determining root causes, and implementing improvements to test coverage and processes to prevent similar issues in the future.
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical field, with over five years of experience in systems engineering, software development, or a related field. A systems engineering mindset and a proactive, data-driven approach to problem-solving are essential. Experience performing or collaborating on safety analyses, such as Hazard and Risk Assessment, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis, System-theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), and Safety of the Intended Function (SOTIF), is required. The ability to apply existing technical depth to new areas and learn quickly is also important.
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is $196,000 to $248,000 USD annually. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
