New Leaf Energy is seeking a Senior Utility Electrical Engineer to join our team, preferably based in Lowell or Boston, MA, with potential flexibility for our Oakland, Troy, or Chicago offices. We offer a hybrid work environment, encouraging in-person collaboration while allowing remote work options. This role involves evaluating potential distributed energy resource (DER) sites, developing regulatory policies, reviewing relaying and integration schemes, and providing engineering guidance for optimal project integration with utility systems.

Key responsibilities include assessing utility impact studies for accuracy and cost reasonability, assisting project developers in evaluating PV sites and estimating interconnection costs, reviewing interconnection drawings for compliance, managing technical aspects of the interconnection process, providing training to internal engineering teams, participating in process improvement initiatives, engaging in state and industry-level technical policy working groups, attending field design meetings with utilities, performing power systems modeling, and managing external consultants to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.

The ideal candidate will have over five years of relevant engineering and technical policy experience, including renewable energy design and interconnection tariff structures. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar is required, with a Master's degree preferred. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is also preferred. Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills are essential, along with a solid understanding of technical standards related to DER interconnection, such as IEEE 1547-2018 and IEEE 519-1992. Experience with power systems modeling software like SKM, Aspen, or PSSe, and utility system planning is highly desirable.

New Leaf Energy offers a competitive compensation package, including salary, benefits, and performance-based incentives. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment, providing opportunities for professional growth and development. Joining our team means contributing to the acceleration of renewable energy adoption and making a meaningful impact in the clean energy sector.
