New Leaf Energy is seeking a Senior Utility Electrical Engineer to join our team. This role involves evaluating potential distributed energy resource (DER) sites, developing regulatory policies, reviewing relaying and integration schemes, and providing engineering guidance for optimal project integration with the utility system. The position is based in Lowell or Boston, MA, with potential options in Oakland, Troy, or Chicago for the right candidate. We offer a hybrid work environment, requiring in-office presence at least two days per week between Tuesday and Thursday.

Key responsibilities include assessing utility impact studies for accuracy and cost reasonability, assisting project developers in evaluating potential photovoltaic sites, reviewing interconnection drawings for compliance with utility standards, and managing technical aspects of the interconnection process. The role also involves providing training to the internal engineering team, participating in process improvement initiatives, engaging in technical policy working groups, attending field design meetings with utility companies, performing power systems modeling, and managing external consultants to ensure timely project deliveries.

The ideal candidate will have over five years of relevant engineering and technical policy experience, including renewable energy design and interconnection tariff structures. A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required, with a master's degree preferred. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is also preferred. Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills are essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of technical standards related to DER interconnection, such as IEEE 1547-2018 and IEEE 1547.1-2020, as well as experience with power systems modeling software like SKM, Aspen, or PSSe.

New Leaf Energy offers competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage. We provide a 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and a company match, an open and self-managed paid time-off policy, a hybrid work location policy supporting partial remote work, a parental leave policy available immediately upon hire, and professional development and education assistance.

Our company culture is driven by collaborative, long-term relationships based on trust and transparency. We offer a flexible work environment that places significant responsibility in independent teams, creating opportunities for innovation and personal growth. Joining New Leaf Energy means contributing to the acceleration of the transition to a world powered by renewable energy.
