Sr. Staff Software Engineer - Unity Catalog Data Governance
Databricks is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical direction and development of Unity Catalog's enterprise-grade governance capabilities. Unity Catalog is Databricks' unified and open governance solution for data and AI, integrated into the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. This role involves driving the roadmap and execution of critical features that enable organizations to govern access to their Lakehouse assets at scale.
In this position, you will lead the design and delivery of high-impact projects, setting standards for security, usability, performance, and scalability. You will mentor senior engineers, elevating development and operational best practices across the organization. Taking full ownership of the Unity Catalog Governance product, you will drive it from initial concept to robust, scalable solutions with measurable business impact. Collaboration with product and infrastructure teams is essential to align technical strategy and execution, ensuring seamless integration and adoption of governance features. Additionally, you will champion the development of high-quality, reliable, and easy-to-operate software, driving operational processes that deliver a seamless customer experience.
The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of industry experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems. A proven track record of driving initiatives focused on customer satisfaction and incremental delivery is essential. Deep computer science expertise, including algorithms and data structures with real-world application, is required. Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills are necessary. A BS in Computer Science or related fields is required, with an MS or PhD preferred. Experience in data governance, security, privacy, identity management, authentication, or access control is preferred.
Databricks offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for professional growth. The compensation package includes a base salary ranging from $217,000 to $312,200 per year, plus equity. Additional benefits include eligibility for an annual performance bonus and comprehensive benefits.
