Staff Analyst, Competitive Intelligence
Upstart is seeking a Staff Analyst to lead its Competitive Intelligence program within the Marketplace Analytics team. This role is pivotal in analyzing and optimizing the interplay between supply, demand, and pricing in Upstart's lending marketplace, ensuring the company's offerings remain competitive and aligned with market dynamics.
The Staff Analyst will be responsible for managing the end-to-end competitive intelligence program, including overseeing internal and external data sources and vendor relationships. Key duties involve integrating various data sources—such as surveys, internal comparison data, and third-party reports—into a cohesive narrative that assesses Upstart's pricing relative to the broader market. The analyst will serve as the primary communicator to leadership on competitive pricing, providing critical insights for daily operations, board meetings, and earnings calls. Additionally, the role includes expanding competitive pricing coverage from personal loans to emerging products like auto and home loans, and translating competitive gaps into actionable pricing recommendations.
Candidates should possess a strong analytical and quantitative background with at least 8 years of professional experience in analytics, data science, or a related field. Proficiency in data analysis tools, particularly SQL and Python or R, is essential, along with experience using business intelligence and visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Mode. A degree in a quantitative field like Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, or Operations Research is required. The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to address complex and ambiguous problems with a structured approach, and strong communication and presentation abilities to convey complex analytical concepts to diverse audiences. Experience with survey data is also necessary.
Preferred qualifications include experience in competitive pricing, pricing analytics, revenue management, or marketplace optimization, as well as experience in technology, fintech, lending, or two-sided marketplace companies. A deep understanding of statistical methods and causal inference techniques is advantageous, along with a proven ability to influence strategic decisions through data-driven insights and narratives, especially at the leadership level. Experience collaborating effectively with Product Management and Engineering teams is also desirable.
