Staff Backend Software Engineer (User Platform)
As a Staff Backend Software Engineer at Canva, you will join the User Platform team, a critical component of Canva's infrastructure responsible for user authentication and management. This role is pivotal in scaling Canva's backend systems to support a rapidly growing user base, aiming to accommodate ten times the current number of users. The team focuses on decomposing existing services and building new ones from scratch, emphasizing software design and performance optimization to enhance the user experience for Enterprise and Education customers.
In this position, you will collaborate with a backend-focused team to extend and scale Canva's microservice landscape. Your responsibilities will include developing high-performance systems for authenticating and managing users, avatars, groups, and teams. Additionally, you will design and maintain reusable building blocks for the User Platform, communicate with stakeholder teams to evaluate requirements and align timelines, and focus on improving the experience for customers with large teams in Enterprise and Education environments.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, building, and running high-performance Java backend systems. A solid foundation in computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns, is essential. Effective collaboration and communication skills are crucial, along with experience in SQL. Experience with authentication and permission systems, as well as DynamoDB, is considered a plus.
