Staff / Principal Mechanical Engineer
Lila Sciences is seeking an experienced Staff or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware & Controls Engineering team. This role involves designing and engineering components for workcell robotics, mechanical systems, and automation across life science and physical science domains. The successful candidate will collaborate with experimental scientists, AI/ML scientists, software/controls engineers, and process/automation engineers to lead complex projects and deliver state-of-the-art automation solutions.
Key responsibilities include leading the design and implementation of bench-scale robotics and mechanical systems for sophisticated automation applications. The engineer will design innovative pneumatic, electro-mechanical, and optical solutions for advanced robotic workcells used in biological research and materials discovery. Additionally, the role involves mentoring teams in advanced CAD design and analysis using SolidWorks, optimizing systems for high-throughput workflows, and directing the creation and validation of designs through rapid prototyping methods.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, along with over 8 years of mechanical engineering experience with proven expertise in life science and physical science automation. Extensive proficiency in SolidWorks CAD design, GD&T, and DFMA is required, as well as experience with requirement management systems, product lifecycle management, and product data management. Demonstrated leadership in managing complex projects and mentoring engineering teams is also essential.
Compensation for this role includes a base salary ranging from $163,400 to $228,000 USD per year, along with bonus potential and generous early equity.
