Staff Revenue Accountant
The Staff Revenue Accountant at Boingo Wireless plays a pivotal role within the accounting team, focusing on customer billing, revenue accounting, collections, and the month-end close process. Key responsibilities include generating and submitting invoices in line with customer requirements and company policies, researching and resolving payment discrepancies, and reviewing and analyzing customer contracts. The role also involves preparing and maintaining deferred revenue and revenue recognition schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP, pursuing collection of outstanding accounts receivable balances, and recommending reserves or write-offs as necessary. Additionally, the accountant will prepare invoice adjustments, credit and debit memos, refunds, and related journal entries, complete the monthly financial statement close for accounts receivable and revenue accounting, and prepare account reconciliations to resolve any discrepancies. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with customers and other departments is essential, as is cross-training accounting clerks and other team members as needed. The role also includes ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies, and driving process improvements for quality, efficiency, and cost savings.
Candidates should have at least 2 years of revenue accounting experience, with a working knowledge of revenue recognition and an understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting principles. Strong project management, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills are required, along with professionalism and assertiveness in customer communication. Attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and adaptability to a fast-changing environment are crucial. Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including proficiency with functions like XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, PivotTables, and INDEX MATCH, are necessary. Preferred qualifications include experience in accounts receivable and/or revenue accounting, familiarity with industries such as mobile internet, e-commerce, digital advertising, telecommunications, or Wi-Fi, experience with Oracle Fusion, and an active or inactive U.S. CPA certification. A bachelor's degree is required.
