Staff Software Engineer, Revenue Platform

Metropolis is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of our billing, payments, and invoicing infrastructure. This role involves managing systems that process tens of millions in monthly transactions, balancing immediate business needs with long-term architectural improvements to support rapid growth.

Key responsibilities include owning the technical architecture of billing and payment systems, designing resilient payment processing with multiple gateways, and building comprehensive monitoring and reporting tools for revenue operations. The engineer will also partner with finance and operations teams to address payment failures and disputes, drive adoption of best practices across services, and manage integrations with external systems to ensure reliable data flow and compliance.

The ideal candidate has over 8 years of engineering experience focused on building revenue systems like payment platforms. They should possess strong systems thinking for financial correctness, expertise in database and financial data management, and experience with payment gateways such as Stripe or PayPal. Excellent technical communication skills and proficiency with AI-assisted development tools are also required.
